The Nooze

Dear diary,
I have finally indirectly made the big time.
My Brainchild was on the news. I teach gypsy moth trappers how to use GPS to find and place traps and for statistical analysis. Trapper Steve made the point that technology is aiding in the eradication of invasive r-type massive defoliators such as the gypsy moth and japanese beetle.
This whole story was cooked up by my screwball office neighbor, the full-bird colonel from the US army that is now a spinmeister for the pest program. This is the fellow who asked me the other day "whatever happened to DDT? It's not totally illegal is it?" The colonel made the point to me that the kuran is a terrorist piece of literature at best.
I'll quit the quick bitch-fest to say that what he did in the news today was really good for my place in the department and holistic appreciation for the understanding of spacial analysis in general, and may have paved the way for my my future career or not.
The colonel, I can't tell if he is joking or not some of the things he says.
For my information he was likely a vietnam era media liaison spinmeister who has learned how to present the most vile of lies in a somehow palatable fashion. He is enjoying a sort of retirement here that includes something like a warner brothers cartoonish idealism of "the good war" coupled with whatever else the team is doing at the moment. The team being jesus people.
He is always bringing in recordings from the ww2 era with songs such as:
Praise the lord and pass the ammunition, onward christian soldier and the like. I think he is crazy person, drunk with propaganda for whatever, in thinking that being told what to think about any topic is ok. He alludes to me as a trainee "in the bunker" and that things are going to change once we clear up a few misconceptions about the Iraq war.
In all I find him very colorful and very obvious, of course he thinks he's a genius, of course he controls everything. He is out of touch with reality.
In fact I value my time with him because I learn things daily about the way things were and why that was bad and inapplicable to today's societies.
He just came in here with his precious stick he has attached some magic to because one of the pest eradication employees broke it in a "mighty casey" famed game of stickball in the park. He twirls the stick like he's on flag team or something and marches out of the room to go declare opinion on someone else.
I am happy here in the hotbed of mania, I see how it plays out which is an opportunity I have never had. I can actually see what the effect of what the breaking of a person has on the rest of their days.
At any rate I told him that "if Jesus was alive today he'd have to get himself a damn job", and that "gone are the days of jesus, now is the time of personal autonomy and responsibility."
The confusion we feel as people is a gift that we are entitled to, not a curse to be cured by faith in the supernatural.
